{"id":448,"date":"2011-02-16T09:25:46","date_gmt":"2011-02-16T09:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/?p=448"},"modified":"2019-02-11T21:12:17","modified_gmt":"2019-02-11T21:12:17","slug":"nicht-mist-nebelig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/nicht-mist-nebelig\/","title":{"rendered":"nicht &#8220;mist&#8221;, nebelig"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"181\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/mist.jpg\" alt=\"mist\" class=\"wp-image-449\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>a week or so ago, we had some very warm\nweather that made the thick layer of snow vanish before our eyes,\nafter lying on the ground for two frozen weeks. i was quite surprised\nto see that the grass under the snow hadn&#8217;t died at all, but came up\ngreen &amp; happy looking. the warm weather also encouraged the\nspring bulbs to start tentatively poking new shoots out of the\nground, &amp; for several mornings we heard the knocking of the local\nwoodpecker. but then temperatures dropped again &amp; for several\ndays we&#8217;ve woken up to thick mist. &#8220;mist&#8221; auf deutsch is a\nmore polite version of &#8220;scheise&#8221;, so one must be careful\nwhen speaking helledeutsch &#8211; heute ist nicht &#8220;mistig&#8221;, es\nist &#8220;nebelig&#8221;. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/surfing_01.jpg\" alt=\"Surfing on the Eisbach\" class=\"wp-image-334\" width=\"284\" height=\"213\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>i&#8217;ve also learned the word for &#8220;muddy&#8221;, which is &#8220;matschig&#8221;, prounced pretty much the same as &#8220;magic&#8221;. this word was required during the warm weekend, when we walked (&#8220;spaziern gehen&#8221;) in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"enlglischer garten (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Englischer_Garten\" target=\"_blank\">enlglischer garten<\/a>, one of the world&#8217;s largest urban parks. practically everyone in munich had been drawn out by the sunshine, &amp; the recently frozen earth paths were crowded &amp; extremely matschig. as well as the walkers, their dogs &amp; their prams, there were groups playing football, hackysack and badminton, an ancient acordian player, dreadlocked drummers, tourists being driven in stylish antique horse-carriages, &amp; of course the surfers. yes, it&#8217;s true: &#8220;man kann in m\u00fcnchen surfen&#8221;, 500km from the sea!
