{"id":1222,"date":"2022-02-22T10:18:11","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T10:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/?p=1222"},"modified":"2023-10-13T09:55:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T09:55:01","slug":"the-art-of-procrastination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/the-art-of-procrastination\/","title":{"rendered":"the art of procrastination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fact that the last time I posted here was in August last year (almost seven months ago) tells you that I have been failing miserably in the art of procrastination. I have been dutifully meeting deadlines, planning and organising events, and a (very little) bit of creating. It&#8217;s only now, when I&#8217;m struggling with a difficult article on digital mobility (how can this be difficult? my entire life is digitally mobile!) that I am flexing my procrastination muscles again by deciding it&#8217;s absolutely essential that I write a blog post.<\/p>\n<p>So what has been keeping me from this procrastination? Here&#8217;s a brief summary of what I&#8217;ve been up to in those last seven months:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1225 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/amarant_helen_parvathy_zec-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Amaranta, Helen, Zec and Parvathy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>I came back from New Zealand mid-September and a few weeks later went to the Magdalena festival <a href=\"https:\/\/themagdalenaproject.org\/en\/content\/tradition-transmission-transgression-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tradition-Transmission-Transgression<\/a> in the beautiful village Ally\u00f3n in northern Spain; this was the first physical Magdalena festival since the beginning of the pandemic so it was quite an emotional reunion for many there, and there was a very strong connection between the town and the festival which was inspiring.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mobilise-demobilise.eu\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1226 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/MobiliseDemobilise_bus_gogogo-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mobilise\/Demobilise\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mobilise-demobilise.eu\/mobilise-demobilise-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Mobilise\/Demobilise<\/em> festival<\/a> in October launched the rebuilt <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upstage.org.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UpStage<\/a> platform and presented three new cyberformances; there&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/654450855\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">showreel from the festival here<\/a>. The project continues until February 2023 and so there will be more opportunities to join cyberformances and learn about UpStage.<\/li>\n<li>Eva Ursprung and Sara Larsdotter Hallqvist, partners in <em>Mobilise\/Demobilise<\/em>, and artists-in-residence at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artistinresidence-munich.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Villa Waldberta<\/a>, Feldafing, at the invitation of Magdalena M\u00fcnchen as part of our event series <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magdalenamuenchen.de\/next-moves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Next Moves<\/a>. We&#8217;re continuing our work on <em>Mobilise\/Demobilise<\/em>, developing a new cyberformance, and holding events in Munich on the theme &#8220;next moves&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1227 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creative-catalyst.com\/expect\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/saras_arrival_2-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"Helen, Sara and Eva\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/>In January, Eva, Sara and I presented at the <a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.filmwinter.de\/2022\/programm\/next-moves-upstage-and-mobilisedemobilise-presentation-artist-talk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuttgarter Filmwinter<\/a>, then I was a panelist on the <a href=\"https:\/\/vier.ruhr\/digitalitaet-die-aktuelle-praxis-und-zukunftsvisionen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digitalit\u00e4t: die aktuelle Praxis und Zukunftsvisionen<\/a> panel discussion (the latter in German! A bit nerve-wracking but apparently I was understandable &#8211; I am bravely sharing the video recording below, so that you can be the judge of my Deutschesprache ability &#8230;). I&#8217;ve also given a masterclass at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh (online), where they are starting an MA in digital performance that will offer UpStage as a platform for students to work in, and at the end of February I&#8217;m speaking (online) at the Tajrabeh Theater Festival in Tehran.<\/li>\n<li>Meta Theater, near Munich, is hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meta-theater.com\/6654-take-heart-residenzen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">virtual residencies<\/a> and exploring digital and hybrid performance, using UpStage as an online space of experimentation; I&#8217;m part of the team providing support and training in using UpStage.<\/li>\n<li>Magdalena M\u00fcnchen is preparing to host Zoe Gudovi\u0107, Bridge Markland and Ruby Tuesday in a weekend festival <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magdalenamuenchen.de\/performing-gender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Performing Gender<\/a> in March.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And there&#8217;s more, but you get the picture: just because I haven&#8217;t posted on this blog doesn&#8217;t mean I&#8217;ve been idle!
